Functional Energy Medicine

A root-cause approach to chronic fatigue.

Exhaustion that sleep doesn’t fix is not laziness or aging — it’s a body running low on cellular energy. We look at the mitochondria, stress axis, and hidden infections behind your fatigue and rebuild your capacity to make energy again.

The Science

Fatigue is a cellular energy problem.

Every function in your body depends on energy made by your mitochondria. When those cellular engines are overwhelmed — by chronic stress, infection, inflammation, or nutrient depletion — the result is a fatigue that rest alone can’t touch.

Persistent fatigue, including ME/CFS, is increasingly understood as a state of mitochondrial dysfunction layered with a dysregulated stress (HPA) axis and, often, an unresolved infectious or inflammatory trigger. It’s not in your head.

The path forward is to remove what’s draining you and rebuild the machinery that makes energy — carefully, without pushing you into a crash.

How We Approach It

We look for the specific drivers of your fatigue rather than offering generic ‘more sleep’ advice. Care is paced to your energy envelope — supporting mitochondria, calming the stress axis, and resolving hidden triggers.

Root Drivers

What’s draining your battery.

Chronic fatigue usually has more than one driver stacked on top of each other. We investigate each rather than treating tiredness as one thing.

Mitochondrial Dysfunction

When your cellular engines can’t keep up, every system runs on empty. We support the nutrients, cofactors, and conditions mitochondria need to make energy efficiently again.

HPA Axis & Stress Physiology

Years of stress can leave the cortisol rhythm flat and dysregulated. Restoring a healthy stress-response curve is often the difference between wired-and-tired and steady energy.

Hidden Infections & Inflammation

Reactivated viruses (EBV), Lyme and coinfections, gut pathogens, and mold keep the immune system — and inflammation — stuck on, quietly siphoning your energy.

What We Work On

Six systems behind your energy.

Fatigue is whole-body. These are the systems we assess and support to rebuild your capacity.

Mitochondrial Function

Restoring the cellular machinery that produces your energy.

Adrenal & Stress Axis

Rebalancing the cortisol rhythm that governs energy and resilience.

Thyroid & Hormones

Making sure the metabolic thermostat is set and running correctly.

Gut & Nutrient Absorption

Fixing the digestion and absorption that fuel energy production.

Infections & Inflammation

Resolving the hidden triggers keeping your immune system on and your energy off.

Sleep & Recovery

Restoring genuinely restorative sleep so the body can rebuild.

Who This Is For

Support for the bone-tired.

Whether you have a diagnosis or just haven’t felt right in years, root-cause energy work applies. Situations we support include:

How We Work

The tools we bring to every plan.

Functional Lab Work

We look deeper than a normal CBC — at thyroid, cortisol rhythm, iron and B12, mitochondrial and organic-acid markers, inflammation, and hidden infections. The goal is to find the specific reasons behind your fatigue.

Common Panels
  • Full thyroid panel
  • Cortisol rhythm (4-point)
  • Iron studies, ferritin & B12
  • Organic acids & mitochondrial markers
  • hs-CRP & inflammatory markers
  • EBV, Lyme & infection screening

Nutrition & Mitochondrial Support

A steady, nutrient-dense nutrition strategy plus targeted mitochondrial support — the cofactors, minerals, and pacing your cells need to make energy without triggering a crash.

Approaches We Use
  • Blood-sugar stabilization
  • Mitochondrial cofactor support
  • Anti-inflammatory nutrition
  • Gentle, paced movement
  • Nutrient repletion

IV Therapy & Targeted Support

NAD+, Myers’ cocktails, and customized IV formulations to bypass sluggish digestion and deliver energy-supporting nutrients directly — a favorite for patients rebuilding from deep fatigue.

Frequently Used
  • NAD+ support
  • Myers’ cocktail
  • High-dose vitamin C
  • B-complex & magnesium
  • Amino acid & mineral blends

Common Questions

Questions about chronic fatigue, answered.

Can functional medicine help with chronic fatigue?
We look for the specific drivers of your fatigue — mitochondrial function, the stress axis, thyroid, and hidden infections — rather than offering generic advice. The plan is paced to your energy so we rebuild capacity without triggering a crash.
Can you help with ME/CFS specifically?
Yes. We support the mitochondrial, immune, and stress-axis patterns common in ME/CFS, and pace all activity and treatment to your energy envelope.
Do you take insurance?
We are a fee-for-service practice. We accept HSA and FSA, and offer in-person visits in Minnetonka and virtual visits. Cost and options are reviewed at your consultation.
How long until my energy improves?
Recovery is gradual. Many patients feel small, steady gains within weeks, with more meaningful energy over several months as the root drivers are addressed.
